Intentional

With the stress and busyness of an international move, I haven’t been too consistent with our French routine. Jubilee, 3.5 years old, still often asks to watch something on her tablet and my rule in this transition season has been if we read a French book together first then I say yes, she can watch a language learning show.

But even during this more relaxed language learning season I'm still amazed by Jubilee's progress. She can sing several nursery rhymes in French, greets new people with a "Bonjour, ça va?", and often asks me the names of things in French. Which is reassuring that our delight-based approach, rather than stressing over a schedule, is paying off!

Now that we’ve been back in West Africa almost 2 months I’m starting to feel settled in. Which means I should make an effort to restart our more intentional French routine. Intentional. I think that word intentional is an important reminder for myself because my bilingual goals won’t happen by accident.

And so I’ll try to resolve to speak to the girls in French more and have a weekly theme - for songs, books, and language learning shows - so that we’re adding new vocabulary regularly.
